About Me
- Relatively recently, I myself was finally diagnosed as an adult with ADD. I have lived with ADHD symptoms since childhood; I knew what it was like to feel 'different'. I can authentically identify with client experiences, emotions, and coping strategies.
- After graduating from all levels of schooling, elementary to graduate school, I understand the skills needed to be a successful student. I can offer encouragement, guidance and the support needed for academic success.
- During my years as a Hamilton Board school teacher, I experienced firsthand, the struggles of ADHD students. Our mandate was to design learning plans for all, so that included students with ADHD, autism and Asperger's, along with those coping with ADHD co-morbidities, like anxiety, and learning disabilities like dyslexia.
- Outside of the classroom, my life as a wife and mother continues to give me another perspective on the impact of ADHD; I know the challenges of relationships and modern family life.
About My Education
- My education, BEd.(UWO), MEd. (York U.), and my current membership in the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) give me knowledge of school procedures, classroom expectations, and Ministry of Education directives.
- I am a Certified Attention Deficit Consultant after completing the American Institute of Health Care Professionals program, allowing me to use the designation ADC-C. The coursework provided current, research-based information on the complex symptoms, behaviours, emotional issues and treatment options of ADHD.
- I completed specialized ADHD coach training with ADDed Dimension Coaching, training me in the process of coaching, and providing me with the ways to offer support, and guidance for managing an individual's unique symptoms, with realistic, effective strategies.
- I have participated in webinars and completed coursework
on brain research and program methodology to become an Integrated Listening Systems
(iLs) practitioner.
- My training in the Simultaneous MultiSensory Teaching program, (Direct Educational Services, certified by the Canadian Dyslexia Association), gives me further perspective on learning disabilities like dyslexia, that often accompany ADHD.
