If your child is falling behind academically even though his or her intelligence shines through...
If your 'ADHDer' is feeling pessimistic and losing self-esteem…
Individualized attention training and coaching could make the difference
About ADDhere ADHD Centre Services:
- ADDhere ADHD Centre has been planned as an education place and safe spot for those affected by ADHD, who are experiencing challenges in all areas of life. Individuals and families can bring the 'ADD' 'here' and find information about ADHD and the impact it has. Coaching and academic tutoring are available to help assess and understand current situations and plan a step-by-step path toward meeting personal goals. These goals can be as simple as 'remembering to hand in homework', to a more complex plan for 'interpreting social interactions with others'.
- The educational neuro-music therapies of Integrated Listening Systems are now available. Clients have auditory processing training sessions 2 to 5 times a week, engaging in specially designed movement exercises while listening to full spectrum and then filtered and gated orchestral music. For research, testimonials and technical information, see www.integratedlistening.com
- For children,
the 'Pay
Attention' Attention Process Training program addresses
focused, sustained, selective, alternating, and divided
attention weaknesses. Children listen to increasingly
complex instructions to follow with card games and timed
activities.
- ADHD Coaching will provide encouragement and support for someone to move toward changing the behaviours that are so often misread by friends, family, teachers and caregivers. We will look into the inappropriate behaviours and plan how best to deal with them successfully. With the support to handle the ADHD symptoms that so often strain relationships at home and school, the focus can then become growing hidden strengths. For those who have had disheartening experiences lowering self-esteem, coaching can positively help uncover those strengths.
- Academic Mentorship and Tutoring helps an ADHD student understand school problems and improve the 'executive function' skills that are needed for success. Weak skills in prioritizing, organizing, activation, decision making and such, commonly sabotage the ADHD student's efforts toward success. Problems with symptoms such as impulsivity, inattention and hyperactivity make learning in the school setting difficult. These symptoms manifest as behaviours that strain school relationships and make following procedures extremely difficult. Certain academics are made difficult because of the weak working memory and other executive function skills. Writing and math problems are examples. The resulting impatience and hurtful remarks from others do not motivate, but instead leave a student demoralized and unable to proceed. A humiliated student reacts with resentment, not initiative. This cycle happening over and over greatly damages the confidence and self-esteem of learners. Here we can collaboratively design plans to tackle the problems, alleviate the strain and disrupt the cycle.
- ADHD information consultation is available for anyone involved with ADHD. I can offer information and suggest resources that will help you make decisions, for example, to plan for ADHD students' social and school successes. Using currently accepted best practices, ideas for individualized plans can be suggested to fit unique individuals and different circumstances.
